The reason why I chose this community service is because it was at my church. I also thought that making hamburgers and passing it out to the homeless would be very beneficial to me and my community. This community service helped me to realize many different things, but most importantly, I learned a lot about myself through this service. During the service, there was an incident where the woman in charge wouldn’t let the homeless take two cookies. I had thought to myself “Why can’t they just have two?” Even though I thought it, I never really stood up to the woman in charge. Other things I realized is that we don’t know that we have something until it’s gone. The homeless were all once a child. They had parents who loved them. However, they would have never known that they were going to be homeless when they grew up. That’s when I realized, you never know what might happen. It might happen to me. It is a possibility. This service really changed the community by making everyone a better person. I saw the faces of the homeless when passing out food. When they received it, I was able to see their faces brighten. They would always respond “Thank you. Thank you. Bless you all. Thank you.” This made me feel that even though they had lost everything, every small little things that they still have will be treasured. Like they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. My future career is a pharmacist. In the future, I would really love to come back and treat sick people on the streets. This can really help the community. Education plays a very important role here. Education is what is going to help me become a pharmacist and help the homeless. I need to do well in high school and college. Working very hard will help me to do what I want to do in the future.
